About Us

Sean Coster is a running coach and exercise physiologist in Portland, OR. Sean coaches recreational runners aiming for personal bests and elite competitors working toward national class performances. Sean is a member of the coaching staff of the Nike Sports center in Beaverton, OR and a coach and co-founder of Run Portland www.runportland.org. Sean’s coaching advice has been seen in Runners World, Competitor Magazine and Race Center Northwest.  Clients include Runner's World, Map My Fitness, Nike and Oregon Health and Science University.  In addition to graduate studies in exercise physiology he has achieved level I coaching certification from USATF and accreditation with the Road Runners Club of America.

QUALIFICATIONS

An experienced and educated leader in the applications of biomechanics and physiology to runners of a broad range of abilities.  Success with national and world class athletes from middle school to masters competition.  Experienced applied exercise physiologist completing hundreds of field and lab tests on runners, cyclists and triathletes.  Developed and implemented innovated concepts for strength training and injury prevention for endurance athletes.  Has led dozens of athletes to national championships, personal bests and event championships in 12 years of coaching collegiate, national class and masters runners.

Founded business providing comprehensive coaching services to runners of various abilities.  Services include coaching, strength training and laboratory testing services.  Clients include recreational and competitive runners from youth to masters;  Nike, inc, OHSU, Map My Fitness, Hood to Coast and Runners World. www.crpusa.com.

Spring 2010        Assistant Coach Track and Field – Lincoln High School

Assistant coach in charge of the daily administration of the strength and conditioning for entire team and training of men’s and women’s spring teams.


2008-  2009         Volunteer Assistant Coach XC and Track– University of Portland

Assisted with workout administration and transportation for Pilots women’s cross country and track programs.


Spring 2008         Assistant Coach Track and Field – Lincoln High School

Assisted with the administration of daily workouts, strength training and group warm up.


Fall 2007               Head Coach Cross Country – West Sylvan Middle School

Lead established middle school program of over 100 students to third place in inaugural Oregon middle school state cross country championships.


2000-2006    President/Co-founder, Fit Right Northwest

Launched local retail corporation with 2 locations in Portland, OR metro area.  Experienced with employee management, accounts, customer service, marketing and applied biomechanics/shoe fitting.


1999-2000     Assistant Coach Track and Field – Humboldt State Univ.

Assistant coach in charge of recruitment of athletes, travel planning for team, strength and conditioning and administration of workouts for Track and Field team at national caliber Division II program.


1998-1999     Assistant Coach Cross Country – Humboldt State Univ.

Assistant coach in charge of recruitment of athletes, travel planning for team, strength and conditioning and administration of workouts for Cross Country team at national caliber Division II program.

Prep: 8-time letter winner at Chatfield Senior High (CO), 5x All state in Track and Cross Country, 1993 Runner up Colorado State XC Champs,

College: 3 year letter winner at The College of William and Mary and Colorado State Univ., member of 1994 CAA League Championship squad with W&M.

Personal bests: 800m-2:00, 1500m-4:03, 3000m-8:39, 5000m-14:50, 10,000m-32:20*, Half Marathon-1:14*, Marathon-2:51 (NYC)
